Bicycles, pets and luggage on a bus
Bicycles on public transport in the city
It is not a given that a bike can be taken along in city transport. A bike can be transported for free but with certain restrictions. The owner of the bike has to pay for their own journey and take care of the bike throughout. Only two bicycles are allowed on a bus at a time. A bike can only be transported in the space set aside for prams (not in the aisle).
To ensure passenger safety the aisle may not be blocked. A pram, wheelchair or walker always has priority over a bicycle. This means that a person travelling with a bicycle may have to interrupt their journey if space is needed for a pram, wheelchair or walker. The cyclist will not be compensated in such a case.
Bicycles in regional public transport
On regional transport a bicycle may be placed in the cargo hold of the bus if it is equipped with one. It is not necessarily always possible to transport a bicycle. Please ensure before your journey that there is room for your bike in the cargo hold. The owner of a bike has to pay for their journey but transport of a bike is free is the owner puts it in the cargo hold themself.
Transportation of a bike costs the price of a single ticket if the driver of the bus has to help put it in the cargo hold. The cost of the ticket depends on the age group of the person transporting the bike.
Pets
Pets can travel on the bus for free if they are not dangerous and are accompanied by a passenger.
The driver can refuse to take a pet on the bus if the bus is rather full, there are other pets on it already or the passengers object.
Police dogs, guide dogs for visually impaired persons, service dogs for persons with a mobility impairment or a dog being trained to be a service dog may all be brought onto a bus.
Please note that a dog’s place on a bus is the floor. Other pets as well should not travel on a seat.
Luggage
Luggage may be transported for free on public transport. Where large items are involved, the driver decides on a case-by-case basis. The driver can refuse to allow large pieces of luggage on the bus if the bus is full.
